What is different about Refliukso?

 

For our company we see society as part of our ensemble. By attending one of our events you are not an audience member, you are given the system in which you move away from being a voyeur. Michel Saint Denis says in ‘Theatre, the rediscovery of Style’

 

‘We set out to develop initiative freedom and a sense of responsibility in the individual as long as he or she was ready and able to merge his personal qualities into the ensemble.'

 

At Refliukso we merge all personal qualities both the good the bad and the ugly into our work. We aim to show a true reflection to our ensemble and so help them to develop responsibility for the actions which the society they live in continues to create.

 

OUR ENSEMBLE 

 

As the voyeur the ensemble will have a key role to play within the live performances.

They will be put to the test presented with challenging, shocking and sometimes uncomfortable things to watch they will feel the need to step in and change the outcome.

 

At this point they will step away from being the voyeur and feel the need to become part of the action. This inspired by Boal's Invisible theatre forces the audience to no longer be passive members and transfer their desire to take action onto the characters they identify with. Until we STAND UP and SPEAK OUT there will be no happy endings and there will be no compromises within our society and so we apply the same rules at our events.

 

At this point the art would become inspired by the fluxus manifesto

 

  TRUE / REAL / PURE ART  

 

For us the emphasis is on the truth behind the theatre, the work being as much of a true reflection on society as possible. This would reveal the ACTUAL views and opinions of the public. Almost holding a mirror up to society and attempting to spark change. The audience are put in situations they may be used to judging as passive voyeurs, sat on the couch watching the news or reading the daily mail. Judging or commenting on these stories on facebook but when these situations or extreme views are presented to them would they put themselves in the firing line? or turn a blind eye and walk away?
